Por Prof. Holger Schiele, Professor na Jacobs University Bremen (Alemanha).
7 de November de 2008, 15:00, Sala C104 (Edifício II, 1º Piso)
ISCTE - Avenida das Forças Armadas - Entrecampos
Holger Schiele grew up in Brazil and Germany. After a bank apprenticeship, he studied Business Administration and Economics at the Universities of Hanover (Germany) and Maastricht (The Netherlands), also majoring in Economic Geography.
He earned his PhD and his Venia Legendi from Leibniz Universität Hannover, were he has also been a lecturer. In parallel, he has been working in the strategy department of Preussag AG, one of the large German conglomerates and as a consultant, both for PricewaterhouseCoopers and for h&z. Currently he is at Jacobs University in Bremen (Germany).
Dr. Schiele's research interests concentrate on strategic management, organisational design, regional clusters and the supply chain. He has published two best selling management books, apart from several academic articles in leading journals such as Research Policy, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management or Journal of Business Strategy.
This conference, organized by MRC, approaches the subject of Strategic Management, which traditionally, was concentrating on positioning the firm in the right market segement and taking full advantage of this firm's resources. However, in the last years parts of production and also many administrative processes have been outsourced to suppliers. The consequence: more then ever the success of a firm depends on managing its network of value-creation partners. Theory has reflected this phenomenon discussing the "relational view of the firm", which support the design of new types of strategies. In practical application the outsourcing trend means that firms may emphasise more the design and the management of their supply chain.
